The Power of Names and Signatures
We’ve talked about identity and the art of re-inventing yourself again and again, and we’ve talked about self, other, and oneness. In this blog piece, I’m bringing a few key insights about the power of one’s name and signature. I’ll write both in general and from the Artist’s point of view. Read on and let me know what you think in the comments below!
The Power of Names
Since ancient times, it’s been believed that names have a powerful effect over those who bear them. The letters of a name, in their graphic aspects, and the sounds of it, in their phonetic aspects, and their combination, they carry frequencies within them. The symbolic nature of the constituents of a name, and of the name itself, point to the intrinsic relation between the words and the realities they signify. This is why it’s often believed that a given name can determine the destiny of the individual, or their character traits.
For example, in Ancient Egypt, it was believed that names were a reflection of the soul. Consequently, there was an association between the name of a person and their character and destiny. And from this also stemmed the belief that the name could have a magical effect upon them.
What’s more, the folklore in various cultures across the globe mentions through many tales that knowing someone’s, or something’s true name allows one to affect another person or being. Thus, knowing the true name equates with having power over them.
Notes about the Artist’s Signature
We all carry our names as our identifiers and in the world. It’s usually our parents who chose them for us. Our names may have a direct link with our character and our destinies. They may influence the way we act and interact with the world, or they may not. But when it comes to the artist who uses his name and signature to acknowledge the authorship of his creation, things are slightly different.
The Artist’s Signature is self-chosen, and so is his name, if he chooses to sign his works under an artist name or pseudonym. This tells a lot about the artist. It tells us about his preferences and inclinations, and what he stands for in the world. It can also bring a piece of the message he wants to transmit through his presence and his work.
The Artist’s Signature, like his fingerprints, encloses and passes on his uniqueness and one-of-a-kind passage on the Earth plane. The Artist’s Signature becomes like a stand-alone organism, able to penetrate through time and space. A living stamp, carrying the Artist’s Spirit’s Essence even after the Artist has passed over.
The Value of an Original Signature
In the Art World, it’s well known that the Artist’s genuine signature on the work of Art favorably increases the value of the work. The original signature an evidence of authenticity that can return the investment countless-fold over time. Because the work of Art is like a piece of the Artist’s being, a part of his Spirit Essence. And owning a piece of original Art is both an investment, and a way of supporting the Artist to continue to create while he is alive.
Thus, if you’re ready to invest in an Original Alma Lewtom Work of Art, I’d love to hear from you! (And I hope that you’ll be responsible about the fact that you know my true name since I revealed it to you, hihi.)
Blessings,
